How to Use Keywords in Blog Posts

If you’re posting to your blog as a form of therapy or to simply entertain long-distance family members, understanding how keywords work won’t matter much. But if you plan to earn a little income off your blog, or want to reach a few thousand visitors a day, you definitely want to implement keywords into each and every blog post

Things You'll Need

  • Internet connection
  • Keyword tools
  • Blog

Instructions

    • 1
Obtain a better understanding of how keywords work. Before you can begin using keywords in your posts, you need to understand how keywords work and how search engines use them. When you write a post, the idea is to stick to one main theme so that your readers know what your subject is and can follow along. Keywords work the same way. Choosing a set of words to use in a single post tells the search engines what your post is about, which in turn allows others to find you.
    • 2
List words related to the theme of your blog. Before you start working on your blog, consider the audience you want to attract, and list words that you think will be of interest to your audience. Then use a keyword search tool (see Resources below) to help you determine which words will give you the best results when people do a search for that information.
    • 3
Write naturally, and insert keywords sparingly. When you write your blog post, write as though you’re talking to a colleague. Say what needs to be said without worrying about keywords or where they should be placed within your content. Once you’ve written your content, go back and replace a few of the generalized terms with your keywords.
    • 4
Avoid overcrowding your content. Use just enough keywords for the search engines to know what you’re talking about, but not so much that your readers get lost in a sea of keywords and lose interest. Your keywords should only take up about 3 to 5 percent of the words used in your post.
    • 5
Use keywords in the coding of your blog. While blogging software makes it easy to post your thoughts online, taking the time to understand some of the more basic elements of your blog’s code can help you improve your rankings in the search engines and drive more traffic to your blog naturally. Use your keywords in your post’s meta tags (title, description, keywords) and in your post’s tag line (tags help optimize your blog’s search feature, but also help with the main search engines). And don’t forget to give your post a unique address using your main keyword (use post slug option).

Use keywords prominently. Your keyword should be included in the title of your post as well as the first paragraph of your post, then again in a few of your subheadings.

How to add Meta tag to Blogspot or Blog

Meta search tags may not be as popular as they once were, but they are still important. Especially if you are running a website or blog and want to make sure that search engines can easily find your site and give it a good indexing. Though it's true that meta search tags are not the only factor in high search engine optimization, they still play a vital role. However, many people who utilize a Blogger blog find it difficult to add meta search tags. Here's how to add them to your Blogger blog

Instructions

  1. Change the HTML code in your Blog

  • 1
Log into your Blogger account with your username and password. Once you are in your blog's dashboard you'll see the word manage on the right, followed by three tabs: Post, Settings and Layout. Click the Layout tab.
  • 2
Look under the heading choices on the Layout tab. You'll see four choices listed: Page Elements, Fonts and Colors, Edit HTML and Pick New Template. Click the Edit HTML tab.
  • 3
Backup your template if you haven't already. This is always a wise idea and will let you easily repair any accidental mistakes that you may make when you edit the HTML of your blog. Once you have made a back up of your template save it on your computer.
  • 4
Hold down the CTRl button and the F key on your computer simultaneously. Make sure that you have placed your cursor in the HTML box first. This brings up a search or find window. Depending upon your Internet browser, it will either be located at the bottom or top of your computer screen.
  • 5
Copy and paste the following code into the search or find box.<b:include data='blog' name='all-head-content'/>The code will be highlighted in the HTML.
  • 6
Copy and paste the following information directly above the highlighted code.<meta content='DESCRIPTION HERE' name='description'/><meta content='KEYWORDS HERE' name='keywords'/><meta content='AUTHOR NAME HERE' name='author'/>
  • 7
Fill in your information where it says 'DESCRIPTION HERE', KEYWORDS HERE', and 'AUTHOR NAME HERE'. Write a nice description that describes the purpose of your blog. Type in a list of keywords that describes the content of your blog and separate each term with a comma and then enter your name where it says "Author Name Here."

Click preview and view your blog. As long as everything looks correct and there are no errors, click save.

    30 Days Experiment: No Facebook

I know what your thinking is as you look at this title? " No Facebook, are you crazy? How could you not be on Facebook?" That was my first reaction when I made the commitment to spend an entire 30 days stretch of time away from the ultimate social network.
According to studies the average Facebook user spends nearly 12 hours a month sailing the virtual world. With my competitive nature, I was worried that I was above average and definitely eager to see if I could survive a month without checking to see what my friend from high school that I have yet to see or talk to in person for 20 years is doing or more importantly following all the extremely thoughtful and highly impartial political opinions. So, as you can see, this was going to be tough. My intention in embarking on this challenge was to: 1) See if I could do it and 2) Learn whether or not I would be more productive as a result. Well, as I look back at my 2 intentions when beginning this exercise I have learned these lessons: Could I stay away for 30 days? Obviously, yes I could do it because 30 days later I was still alive. In fact, when the experiment ended I found myself wanting to stay away for several more days. As a result I will be giving myself several self imposed Facebook breaks to help clear my mind from all the mental noise (metaphorically) that Facebook provides. 2) Was I more productive? I did not observe a massive increase in productivity until the end of my experiment. At first I simply substituted one unproductive activity for another. I found myself checking ESPN, YouTube and my email more often in order to fill the time that would have been taken by surfing on FB and I was (on some days) even less productive than had I been pre experiment. It wasn't until I made 2 specific decisions that I experienced a radical improvement in productivity and surprisingly my social life. Decision ONE - Anytime I had the desire to hop on the computer and navigate the exciting world of Farmville I would TEXT or CALL a FRIEND instead. As you can imagine, I sent a ton of texts, caught up with so many friends and as a result felt much more social and connected than at my most "social" on Facebook. Decision TWO - During the early morning and late evening times that would normally be spent learning about the latest FB cause I would READ a BOOK instead. This proved to be a most enjoyable benefit since I was able to complete nearly a book a week in that short span of time. My main discovery was that what I thought I was getting by being on Facebook was not nearly as powerful as what I experienced while off. That being said, I am not completely shutting down my account, but I will be reaching out to friends via phone more often. For some I might even write and mail a letter to them (gasp)!! Try it out fo r yourself and let me know how your own 30 Days No Facebook Experiment went. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
